I thought there was no possible way that I would be able to run unless my life was in danger. Now I have five races under my belt! The most important goal for me to achieve is to breathe, focus, remain present, and look towards the light, knowing my teammates will be there, whether at my side or at the finish line waiting for me.
Before joining, I didn’t think it was possible to run 5 miles…8 miles…10 miles…14 miles!
A couple years ago, my foot was injured pretty badly and I couldn’t run for a year. I didn’t think I would ever be able to run more than 5 miles again, but here I am running further and faster than I ever thought I could!
I stopped running after college and was unable to exercise at all after a debilitating back injury a year ago. I have always dreaded and avoided running at all costs. I always felt a deep embarrassment when it came to my speed and ability, despite always trying my hardest. I have had more fun running in the last month with this team than I have ever before. I am most excited for the community of kind souls that never stop believing in me. Getting better is just an added bonus.
I had never considered taking up running until I met the Hare Bandits. The decision to join was easy with a supportive group that is always there, regardless of when, where, or how I run. I look forward to accomplishing goals I never thought I would by running.
I remember thinking 13 miles was too far to drive to work, why was I doing this? Now since running with the Hare Bandits I have run further. I love cheering on my mates as they cross the finish line but love crossing it with them more. Whoever said ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ decided to stop learning
Running has always been a love-hate relationship for me. I enjoy it, but staying consistent can be a challenge. That’s why joining the Hare Bandits has been great! I found here, not just great human beings but also amazing friends! During our practices and races we have so much fun!
I have never felt more warmly welcomed in a group, who all encourage each other and push each other to achieve their running and non-running goals. Together we celebrate the wins, we celebrate our differences, and we share a common joy in the act of bettering ourselves on and off the running path.
Running changed my life and so did these people.
